Precision medicine activities emphasizes the biological and molecular bases for prevention and treatment of human diseases. Importantly, there is a primary need for consistency in pre-clinical and clinical research. To overcome the translational gap in treatment and prevention, the research community has been transitioning toward using mouse models which can faithfully recapitulate human diseases. Coupling mouse modeling advances with anatomical and molecular imaging capabilities provides unique capabilities for gaining a comprehensive assessment of disease status and effectiveness of therapeutic interventions over time. The CMI & PMI provide both the high-end instrumentation and expertise to investigators to assist with basic and translational research activities. Evaluation of therapeutic-induced changes or other manipulations over time allows investigators to ask questions that would be more difficult to address compared to using traditional assays such as immuno-chemical probes. The use of small-animal imaging allows investigators to quantify disease progression and test novel therapeutic interventions in the context of the complexity of a whole animal. Therefore, the CMI & PMI provide non-invasive imaging capabilities to allow for rapid assessment of disease status and interventional efficacy over time to assist investigators with the information required to further advance their research program.
